Opiate Detox Articles and Resources

Oxycontin, Hydrocodone Abuse Continue to Rise

Although the sudden increase in drugs such as OxyContin and Hydrocodone may be among our greatest concerns at this moment, they are just two of the many drugs that can harm the people in our communities.

Heroin and Methadone

While only 0.1% of the nation’s population are users of heroin, most of them (68%) are seriously addicted and, as a result, are thrust toward the fringes of society. In fact, heroin is felt to be the most addictive illicit drug, giving its users a brief sense of euphoria that, for some, becomes an obsession they don’t want to live without.

Subutex and Suboxone Detox

Suboxone or Subutex detox treatment is best started once withdrawal has begun, and the dose is adjusted over several days. Suboxone and Subutex are given as a pill which dissolves under the tongue. After the initial level is reached, typical withdrawal symptoms normally associated with Hydrocodne, Oxycodone, Heroin and other Opiates rarely occur.

Prescription drug abuse doubled in U.S.

A recent study reports that prescription drug abuse in the United States nearly doubled from 7.8 million to 15.1 million abusers. Among teens, abuse has tripled, the studies show. Close to 10 percent of children ages 12 to 17 abused at least one type of prescription drug according to the study.

Commonly Abused Prescription Drugs?
Although many prescription drugs can be abused or misused, there are three classes of prescription drugs that are most commonly abused: * Opioids, which are most often prescribed to treat pain; * CNS depressants, which are used to treat anxiety and sleep disorders; * Stimulants, which are prescribed to treat the sleep disorder narcolepsy, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and obesity.
